The 2024 Modern Language Association convention will be held in Philadelphia later this week. The Samuel Beckett Society’s panel is scheduled for 8:30 am on Saturday 6 January, 2024 at the Marriot Grand Hotel. What promises to be a hugely rich session session will be chaired by president Patrick Bixby and is titled Beckett, Aesthetics, and Disability.

The line up includes: Michael Davidson (University of California, San Diego): Krapp Sits: Beckett and the Graying of Disability.

Yael Levin (Hebrew University of Jerusalem): From Symptom to Surface: Beckett, Comensal, and the End of Interpretation.

Ato Quayson (Stanford University): On Samuel Beckett’s Aesthetics of Disability: Distressed Embodiment and the Burdens of Boredom.

Hannah Simpson (University of Edinburgh): Samuel Beckett and Disability Performance: Ethics, Aesthetics, and the Virtuosic.

This is an in-person session only and we would urge as many members as possible to attend.

All those attending are invited to join Katherine Weiss of the Samuel Beckett Early Career Scholars Network after the session for a chat over coffee and food. As Katherine says: ‘In the madness of MLA, you are among friends!’.
